What is a Sacrament?

God is the source of all life, and in the Sacraments of the Church, we receive the free and undeserved gift of God鈥檚 very life 鈥 grace. The Church is a visible sign of God鈥檚 love and of the communion between God and humanity. The seven Sacraments are signs instituted by Christ to give grace.

  • Sacrament
    A sign of God鈥檚 grace that gives the grace that it signifies. Jesus founded seven Sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist, Penance and Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Holy Matrimony.
  • Grace
    (n.): The free and undeserved gift of His own divine life that God gives us to human persons.
