Lesson 9

Expression of Prayer

In this lesson your children learn the three major expressions of prayer: vocal, meditative, and contemplative, which correspond to our God-given voices, minds, and hearts. In all three types of prayer, we seek to know God more intimately and grow in our relationship with Him.

Lesson Vocabulary
  • Vocal Prayer
    Praying with our voices.
  • Meditative Prayer
A form of prayer in which we engage our minds and hearts in reflection on God and the things of God, often using spiritual readings from Scripture. (2721)
  • Contemplative Prayer
(n.): A type of prayer in which we simply be in God鈥檚 presence. It is a simple expression of the mystery of prayer: a gaze of faith fixed on Jesus, an attentiveness to the Word of God, a silent love.
