Lesson 2

The Christian View of Love

Jesus’ dramatic redefinition of love by His teaching and example has profound meaning for how we live a moral life. He taught us to love as God loves us, with unconditional, sacrificial agapē love.

Lesson Vocabulary

  • Agapē (Apologetics)
    :
    The unconditional sacrificial love of God for human beings. It is the highest form of love. Also called charity. Greek for “good will.”
  • Sermon on the Mount
    :
    The Sermon on the Mount was a teaching Jesus gave at the top of a mountain, in front of great crowds who had come to learn from Him.
  • Samaritan
    :
    A member of a group of people living in Israel during the time of Jesus. The Jewish people looked down upon the Samaritans and would not speak to them in public.
  • Abba
    :
    The Hebrew word for Father. Jesus taught us to call God “Abba, Father” when we pray.
