Our Spiritual Enemy

Satan and demons are very real, and they constantly prowl about the world seeking our ruin. Even so, we should not fear him, but must defend against him. Jesus has already defeated Satan by His Cross and Resurrection — a defeat the Devil did not see coming.

Lesson Vocabulary

  • Angel
    :
    An angel is a messenger from God.
  • Lucifer
    :
    Title given to Satan before his fall, denoting his position as closest to God among the angelic hierarchy. Hebrew for “light-bearer.”
  • Satan
    :
    Title given to Lucifer after his fall. Hebrew for “the adversary.”
  • Devil
    :
    A title given to Lucifer after his fall. Can also be used to refer other demons. Latin for “accuser” or “slanderer.”
  • Temptation
    :
    A temptation is something that attracts or lures a person to sin.
  • Fortitude
    :
    “To persevere in what is right.” A Cardinal Virtue that helps us continue in when faced with difficulty.
  • Temperance
    :
    “Right amount” A Cardinal Virtue that helps us to find a balance between too much and too little of the good things in life.
