Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

The month of August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We call Mary’s heart “immaculate” because it is perfectly clean and pure. Mary lived a sinless life through a very special grace: God preserved her from Original Sin since her conception so that she would be full of grace and able to bear Jesus — God Himself — in her womb. Throughout her life, her will would be perfectly free to choose the good. To consecrate your home to Mary’s Immaculate Heart means to set it apart and entrust it to Mary’s intercession.

Practice It!

Print out and frame the stained glass window image on page 3 and add it to your family’s prayer corner. Then lead your family in the prayer on page 4.

Celebrate St. Clare of Assisi

August 11

We become what we love and who we love shapes what we become. If we love things, we become a thing. If we love nothing, we become nothing. —St. Clare of Assisi

Things to do this month:

  1. St. Monica prayed fervently for her son St. Augustine to discern God’s will. Their feast days are August 27 and 28, respectively. Have a special dinner on either of those days thanking the mothers in your family for all the ways they help their children get to Heaven.
  2. If you are busily preparing for the start of the school year, be sure to set aside time for leisure. True leisure is not idleness, but activities which allow us to simply be who God made us to be, and grow in receptivity to His love.

Verse of the Month

Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect. Rom 12: 2

Remember!

Always strive to discern God’s will for you. Just like St. Clare, it is in doing God’s will that we become truly free!

Memorize!

On August 15 we celebrate the Assumption, when Mary “was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.”
