  • Babylonian Talmud
    :
    Compilation of Jewish oral law and other rabbinical material completed around AD 400.
  • Kerygma
    :
    Brief Christian texts that express simple credal teachings. These were the first proclamations of the Early Church, written within a decade of Jesus’ Death and Resurrection, and preserved in the New Testament within the Acts of the Apostles and the Letters of St. Paul.
  • Gnostic Gospels
    :
    Ancient books about the life of Christ that are infused with false theology that reflects the Gnostic heresy rampant at the time. Two are falsely attributed to St. Thomas the Apostle and St. Mary Magdalene.
  • Exegete
    :
    Scholars who analyze the Scriptures
  • Soma pneumatikon
    :
    Phrase coined by St. Paul to describe Christ’s glorified body, meaning literally “spiritual body.”
  • Messianic Movements
    :
    Groups which formed around leaders who claimed to be God’s promised Messiah, and which inevitably died out after the leader’s death.
  • Theophany
    :
    (n.): A profound manifestation, or revelation, of God.
