Transforming Suffering through Faith and Prayer

Suffering is an opportunity to grow in our faith, to live more fully as the Lord lives, and to help in the salvation of others.

Lesson Vocabulary

  • Forgive
    :
    The act of granting pardon to another for an offense committed and to no longer hold that wrong against them.
  • Compassion
    :
    Sympathetic concern for the sufferings of others. From the Latin for “to suffer with.”
  • Redemptive Suffering
    :
    Uniting our own suffering to Jesus’ Passion and offering it as a self sacrifice for the sake of our salvation or the salvation of others, in imitation of Jesus.
  • Prudence
    :
    “Right judgement.” A Cardinal Virtue that helps guide all of the other virtues because it helps us to discern the true good in every circumstance. It helps us to make the right decision at the right time and to find the best way to achieve a good outcome.
  • Resignation
    :
    Acceptance of God’s will in our lives, especially in times of difficulty and suffering.
