The Book of Acts

The Holy Spirit was revealed to the Church at Pentecost and inspired the Apostles to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ.

  • Paraclete
    :
    (n.): Advocate. A title for the Holy Spirit.
  • Communio
    :
    (n.): Communion experienced by the Christian faithful with one another as the Body of Christ and with God the Father through Christ in the Sacraments (especially the Eucharist) and by the movement of the Holy Spirit.
  • Breaking of the Bread
    :
    (n.): A title for the Mass used in the New Testament.
  • Sanhedrin
    :
    (n.): The ancient Jewish court system that settled religious, poltitical, and judical matters.
  • Council of Jerusalem
    :
    (n.): The first ecumenical council of the Catholic Church. Convened in Jerusalem around AD 48 and attended by the Apostles, St. Paul, and other leaders of the early Church, it settled the question of whether Gentile converts to Christianity had to first adhere to Jewish law, specifically dietary laws and the law of circumcision. After much deliberation, St. Peter exercised his role as the first pope and definitively declared that faith in Jesus Christ leading to Baptism was the fundamental requirement for becoming Christian.
