The Epistles

The Epistles were written to individuals, Church communities, and to the universal Church to communicate, affirm what was good and true, and admonish sinfulness and errors.

Lesson Vocabulary

  • Epistles
    :
    (n.): The name given to the 22 letters in the New Testament written by Sts. Paul, Peter, James, John, and Jude. From the Greek epistole meaning “letter.”
  • Catholic Epistles
    :
    (n.): The seven letters written to the entire Church by Apostles. They are the epistles of James, 1 and 2 Peter, 1, 2, and 3, John, and Jude.
  • Agape
    :
    (n.): The love of God for human beings and the love we are called to offer to God and one another. It is the highest form of sacrificial love, in which we will the good of another for their own sake. Greek for “good will” or “desire for the good of another.”
