Mary is our advocate and intercedes for us in prayer.

Lesson Vocabulary

  • Advocate

Someone who helps others in need. Mary is an advocate for us and takes our prayers to her son, Jesus, to answer.

  • Rosary
    :
A special prayer using a chain of beads in which we reflect on the important events in the lives of Jesus and Mary.
  • Apostles’ Creed
    :
A prayer that summarizes the essential beliefs of our Catholic Faith. We pray the Apostles Creed during the Rosary while holding the crucifix.
  • Our Father
  • Hail Mary
    :
A prayer that repeats the words of the Angel Gabriel’s greeting to Mary at the Annunciation of Jesus’ birth and Elizabeth’s greeting to Mary at the Visitation. The prayer also asks for Mary’s motherly intercession in our lives. We pray the Hail Mary during the Rosary three times at the beginning and ten times during each of the five decades.
  • Glory Be
    :
A prayer that praises the most Holy Trinity. We pray the Glory Be after each decade of the Rosary.
  • Decade

  • Mysteries of the Rosary
    :
Important events in the lives of Mary and Jesus that we reflect upon while praying the Rosary. There are four sets of Mysteries: the Joyful, Sorrowful, Luminous, and Glorious Mysteries.
