The Roots of the Eucharist in the Old Testament

  • Sacrifice
    :
    To sacrifice is to give something up freely and willingly.
  • Lamb of God
    :
    Lamb of God is a title given to Jesus that describes His sacrifice to free us from sin. In the Old Testament, a lamb was sacrificed for the temporary forgiveness of sin. Jesus’ sacrifice makes the forgiveness of sin possible for everyone for all time.
  • Passover
    :
    Passover is an important Jewish feast that celebrates God’s freeing of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.
  • Manna
    :
    Manna is the mysterious “bread from Heaven” that God provided to the Israelites as they wandered the desert for 40 years.
  • Eucharist
    :
    The Eucharist is the Sacrament in which we receive the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ under the appearances of bread and wine. The Eucharist is the source and summit of our Christian life. It is spiritual food for the soul. It is not merely a symbol but is Jesus’ true flesh and blood.
