Lesson 1

I Believe

The aim of the first part of this lesson is for your children to learn what faith is and to begin to think about their faith in God. In the second part of the lesson, your children learn that the Church has summarized the great mysteries of our Faith in the Apostles鈥 Creed.

Lesson Vocabulary
  • Believe
    To accept as the truth.
  • Trust
    To rely on someone.
  • Faith
    (n.): A gift from God and a human act by which a person comes to know God and conform their minds, hearts, and wills to Him and the Truth He has revealed.
  • Theological Virtues
    (n.): Gifts infused by God into the souls of the faithful to make them capable of acting as His children and meriting eternal life. They are faith, hope, and charity (or love).
  • Obey
    To do what God tells us to do (and to do what God鈥檚 representatives鈥攑arents, priests, teachers, and so forth鈥攖ell us to do).
  • Creed
    (n.): A brief summary or profession of our Christian Faith, such as the Nicene Creed and the Apostles鈥 Creed.
  • Apostles' Creed
    The most important truths about our Catholic Faith written down together. These include many of the truths God wants us to have faith in.
