In this lesson, students will analyze the coat of arms of Pope Leo XIV through the lenses of Scripture, Church tradition, and Augustinian spirituality. They will reflect on the power of symbols to express faith, foster unity, and reveal a sense of personal calling. Building on these insights, students will then design their own symbolic coat of arms to represent their values and spiritual journey.
This lesson was created by Mr. Michael McLaughlin, Head of Middle School at Austin Preparatory School in Reading, Massachusetts. Austin Prep is one of only 11 Augustinian secondary schools in North America. We extend our gratitude to Mr. McLaughlin and Austin Prep for their generosity in sharing this learning resource.
