Workshop Overview

Join our Workshop staff a for a one-day program on helping your students more deeply understand the sacramental and liturgical life of the Church. You’ll discuss ways to help them see the real power and graces of the Sacraments as well as how to enter more deeply and intentionally into the Mass. 

This Workshop blends scholar presentations with interactive pedagogical sessions, giving you a chance to explore content with a respected scholar, as well as explore and simulate practical teaching strategies with ready-to-use classroom materials. Share best practices with your fellow teachers, enjoy catered breakfast and lunch, and engage in both formal and informal discussions.

    Sacred Art and The Sacraments

    Spend time examining a variety of sacred art images and simulate how to use them in your classroom to help students come to a deeper appreciation for the Sacraments.

    Enjoy the first presentation by a Dr. Jason King, followed by Q & A.

    The Meaning of the Mass

    Participate in hands-on activities that will help your students come to see the true meaning of the Mass.

Jose Gonzalez

Jose Gonzalez joined the team at Sophia Institute for Teachers in 2014 after more than 10 years as a Catholic high school teacher. In addition to teaching, Jose has experience working in parish and diocesan ministry. Jose has been leading Workshops in over 70 dioceses for 10 years, and contributes regularly to our teacher’s guides and digital instructional resources. He has a BA in theology with a concentration in religious education from Franciscan University of Steubenville, and an MA in evangelization and catechesis from the Augustine Institute. Jose and his wife, Mary Beth, have four children.

Jason King

Jason King, Ph.D., is the Beirne Chair and Director for the St. Mary’s University Center for Catholic Studies. He received his master’s and doctoral degrees from The Catholic University of America. As an undergraduate student, he majored in Mathematics and Philosophy and graduated from Berea College, a work college, in Kentucky. Dr. King’s most recent publications include The Green Mister Rogers: Environmentalism in Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and the edited collection Love, Sex, and Families: Catholic Perspectives, which won the Association of Catholic Publisher’s 2021 first-place award in Theology and the 2021 Catholic Media Association first place award in marriage and family living. In 2016, King also received the Catholic Press’ third place award for the book God Has Begun a Great Work in Us. He is Editor Emeritus for the Journal of Moral Theology. He has served on boards and committees for Catholic Theological Ethics in the World Church, College Theology Society, Society of Christian Ethics, and New Wine, New Wineskins. He is married with three kids and an old hound dog.
