Safe Environment Training That Also Teaches Children Who They Are

Most safe environment curricula teach children what to avoid. Bridges and Boundaries does that — and grounds it in why every child is worth protecting. Built on Pope St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body, it delivers Catholic faith formation and safe environment protocol in the same lesson.

“I personally thanked Monica Ashour and her team for this fantastic program.”

“TOBET’s Bridges and Boundaries… provides Catholic formation and age-appropriate self-advocacy skills for children and youth that is deeply rooted in the dignity of the human person.”

Bridges Connect Us, and Boundaries Keep Us Safe

This dual-purpose program teaches Catholic faith formation alongside safe environment protocol — helping children and their parents understand what it means to be made in God’s image and likeness, while also learning to recognize violations against the dignity of the human person and how to respond with the body as a boundary.

A Catholic foundation

Children learn what it means to be made in God’s image and likeness through Theology of the Body — the why underneath every rule they are asked to follow.

Real self-advocacy skills

Age-appropriate instruction in recognizing red flags, responding with the body as a boundary, and telling a trusted adult — covering bullying, online violations, reporting, and grooming.

Parents brought along

The program is written for children and their parents, so the conversation continues at home rather than stopping at the classroom door.

How Does It Work?

Three steps, the same every time — no specialized presenter training required.

1

Play the video for your class

Every lesson is carried by video, so the instruction is identical in every room.

2

Follow the instructor guide

The guide walks the leader through the discussion and the points to reinforce.

3

Students complete worksheets & assessments

Written work and assessments confirm what each student covered.

Who Is It For?

One program covers every grade, PreK through 12 — so families hear a single, consistent message from preschool through graduation.

PreK – 2nd Grade

Celebrating life, and telling a grown-up

Videos for the littlest students celebrate life while guiding children to tell their parents about anything that seems strange.

3rd – 5th Grade

Red flags, and the body as a boundary

Animations emphasize proper interactions among friends through stories that dramatize potential scenarios. Flashbacks hone in on “red flags,” where the main character responds with the body as a boundary — which includes telling a trusted adult.

6th – 8th Grade

The ABC’s of the Body as a Boundary

Students learn about the body as a bridge through what it means to be made in God’s image, proper friendship, and the Eucharist. They then walk through safe environment scenarios — bullying, online violations, and reporting.

•  As the age group most susceptible to grooming, this section includes an additional video devoted specifically to that topic.

9th – 12th Grade

Three videos, including an expert interview

Students learn about safe environment through three videos:

•  Core Instruction / Faith Formation — Theology of the Body concepts, the Eucharist, and safe environment protocol through real-life stories.

•  The Grooming Video — how to recognize and respond to grooming with the “ABC’s of the Body as a Boundary.”

•  The Expert Interview — a former Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security officer, with his advice to teens and parents.

This program is available in English only.

Built for Diocese-Wide Implementation

What a diocesan safe environment office needs from a children’s program.

One program, PreK through 12

A single safe environment program spanning every grade, rather than stitching together different resources at different ages.

Consistent in every room

Because each lesson is carried by video, the instruction is the same in every school and parish across the diocese — regardless of who is leading it that day.

A record of what was taught

Instructor guides, student worksheets, and assessments accompany every lesson, giving your office documentation of the material covered and the work students completed.

Formation, not just a checklist

Children come away understanding the dignity of the human person — the reason behind the protocol — which is what makes a lesson stay with them.

We’re glad to walk your office through the full scope and sequence so you can evaluate Bridges and Boundaries against your diocese’s own safe environment policies and requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the program delivered?

By video. Each lesson is built around a video that carries the instruction, supported by an instructor guide, student worksheets, and assessments.

Who can lead it?

Any teacher, catechist, or trained volunteer. Because the video carries the teaching, the leader follows the guide rather than presenting the material themselves.

Does it address grooming directly?

Yes. The 6th–8th grade section includes an additional video devoted to grooming, as the age group most susceptible to it. The 9th–12th grade section includes a dedicated grooming video plus an interview with a former Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security officer.

Is this sex education?

No. Bridges and Boundaries teaches personal safety and self-advocacy inside a Catholic understanding of the human person. It is a safe environment program, not a sexuality curriculum.

Is it available in Spanish?

Not at this time — Bridges and Boundaries is currently available in English only.

How does it relate to The Body Matters?

Both come from TOBET and share the same Theology of the Body foundation. The Body Matters is the PreK–8 religion program; Bridges and Boundaries is the PreK–12 safe environment program. Many schools and parishes use both.
