The Desire for God

Every human person desires to know God.

Lesson Vocabulary

  • Anthropology
    :
    The study of human beings that concerns their origin, nature, and destiny. A Christian anthropology considers the human person from a Christian perspective, as made in the image and likeness of God. (1892, 1926)
  • Garden of Eden
    :
    (n.): The place where Adam and Eve originally dwelled in perfect harmony with themselves, with all of creation, and with God. Paradise.
  • The Fall
    :
    (n.): When Adam and Eve, due to the temptation and lies of Satan, disobeyed God and rejected His love. Also called the Fall of Man.
  • Original Sin
    :
    (n.): The state of human nature deprived of the original holiness and justice Adam and Even enjoyed before the fall.
  • Natural Revelation
    :
    (n.): God’s communication of Himself to us through the created order.
  • Divine Revelation
    :
    (n.): God’s communication of Himself, by which He makes known the mystery of His divine plan by deeds and words over time, and most fully by sending His Son, Jesus Christ.
  • Sacred Scripture
    :
    (n.): The written record of God’s revelation of Himself. contained in the Old and New Testaments. It was composed by human authors inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Bible. The Word of God.
  • Old Testament
    :
    (n.): The first 46 books of Scripture that record the history of salvation from creation through the old covenant with Israel in preparation for the appearance of Christ as Savior of the world.
  • New Testament
    :
    (n.) The 27 books of the Bible written by the sacred authors in apostolic times that have Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God, as their central theme.
  • Incarnation
    :
    (n.): The fact that the Son of God assumed human nature and became man in order to accomplish our salvation. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the second Person of the Trinity, is both true God and true man.
