Transubstantiation

Transubstantiation is the theological term used to describe the miraculous change of the gifts of bread and wine into Jesus聮 Body and Blood.

Lesson Vocabulary

  • Accidentals
    :
    Characteristics of a thing that are not essential to that thing, such as color, shape, smell, taste, what something looks like, and even what something is made of. In the transubstantiation of the Eucharist, the accidentals of the bread and wine remain unchanged, but the bread and wine truly and substantially become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.

    Substance is what a thing is.
  • Transubstantiation
    :
    Transubstantiation is the word used to describe the change of the bread and wine at Mass into the Body and Blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ.
