The Communion of Saints

A saint is a holy person whom the Church has officially recognized as having practiced heroic virtue and lived a holy, faithful life worthy of imitation and who is in Heaven with God.

Lesson Vocabulary

  • Saint
    :
    A saint is a follower of Jesus who has died and whose soul is in Heaven.
  • Communion of Saints
    :
    All the members of Jesus’ Church make up the Communion of Saints.
  • Church Triumphant
    :
    Those who have died and are in Heaven with God and all His angels and saints.
  • Church Suffering
    :
    Those who have died and are being purified of their sin in Purgatory and will one day be in Heaven with God.
  • Church Militant
    :
    Those members of the Church who are working out their salvation here on earth.
  • Corporal Works of Mercy
    :
    The Corporal Works of Mercy are actions Jesus taught us to show great kindness to people in their bodily needs, such as giving them food, clothing, and shelter.
