Lesson 4

Jesus Paid the Debt for Our Sin

Sin destroys God’s life in our souls, and it destroys our relationship with God.

Lesson Vocabulary

  • Original Sin
    :
The first sin of Adam and Eve, which brought pain, suffering, and death into the world. Because we are all descendants of Adam and Eve, we are all born with Original Sin on our souls. We need to be baptized to remove the stain of Original Sin. The effects of Original Sin remain, however. For example, we tend to sin, we suffer, and we die.
  • Sanctifying Grace
    :
Sanctifying grace is the free gift of God’s love and life in our souls that is given to us by the Holy Spirit through the sacraments.
  • Covenant
    :
A covenant is a solemn agreement between persons that makes a sacred and permanent family relationship.
  • Mortal Sin
    :
(n.): Serious sin we choose to commit even though we know it is wrong. Mortal sin completely separates us from God, destroys His divine life within us, and rejects His love for us.
  • Venial Sin
    :
(n.): Less serious sin that hurts our relationship with God, but does not destroy it.
  • Jesus’ Passion
    :
Jesus’ suffering and death on the Cross for our salvation. (2020)
