Lesson 2: God Speaks to Us through Visible Creation
God communicates invisible, spiritual realities to us through visible, material signs and symbols in creation.
God communicates invisible, spiritual realities to us through visible, material signs and symbols in creation.
Many people today believe that physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia are acceptable options for individuals who are near the end of their lives and are enduring great pain and suffering. The universal teaching of the Christian faith, however, has always held that suicide is wrong because our lives are not our own; they are loving gifts from God given to us so that we can make the free choice to love Him and others so that we may enter into eternal life with Him.
Like Him, we can think, we can make choices, and we can love. God wants us to make loving choices.
God wants us to Love in the way the He loves.
Jesus shows us the greatest expression of love: giving oneself completely to another, body and soul, and He calls us to love as He loves.
Human beings image God not only as individual persons, but most perfectly as male and female in a common union (communion) of love.
Pope Saint John Paul II taught that “The body, in fact, and only the body, is capable of making visible what is invisible: the spiritual and divine. It has been created to transfer into the visible reality of the world the mystery hidden from eternity in God, and thus to be a sign of it.”
Every human being possesses intrinsic dignity because he or she is made in God’s image and likeness.
We respond to Gods goodness, and to the good things He has given us, with thanksgiving and with the pursuit of holiness.
We are all made in God’s image and likeness.
Made in God’s image and likeness, the human soul has been gifted with intellect, free will, and the ability to love.
