Lesson 3: Jesus Teaches Us How To Pray

The aim of this lesson is for your children to understand that Jesus teaches us how to pray. When we read the Gospels, we can examine how Jesus prayed, and therefore learn how to imitate Him. The secret source of Jesus’ prayer is His intimate relationship with His Father in Heaven. When Jesus prays to His father, He begins with thanksgiving and an acknowledgment that His Father hears Him, thereby teaching us that God always hears our prayers. Jesus also shows us that the life of prayer calls for three keys to prayer: conversion, faith, and watchfulness.

Lesson 2: Prayer in Salvation History

In this lesson your children learn that when our heart responds to the invitation from the heart of God to enter into a relationship with Him, we have entered into a covenant. By observing the development of prayer in the Old Testament figures of Abraham and Moses, we can see how this covenantal relationship of prayer reaches its fulfillment through the prayer of Jesus Christ. The Church singles out God’s relationship with Abraham as the start of the drama of prayer because of Abraham’s great faith; Moses is an example of the one who prays for God’s people; and the drama of prayer is fully revealed to us in Jesus, as His will is in complete conformity with His Father’s will.

Lesson 3: Made in His Image, but Fallen from Grace

Your children will begin to learn what it means to be made in the image and likeness of God. We also begin to see the story of creation unfold: the Original Sin of Adam and Eve lost for them and all humanity the friendship and harmony they shared with God, each other, and all of creation. But although man offended God, God’s mercy never faded. He promised a Redeemer and entered into covenants with mankind.

Lesson 5: In the Fullness of Time

In this lesson we see the beauty of God’s plan unfold in the moment the Word became flesh: the Annunciation. Mary said yes to God, and God became man: a baby in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Jesus is Emmanuel, or God with us.

Lesson 4: Called to Be His People, A Promised Savior

Even though Adam and Eve lost the life of grace in their souls, God still loved them and wanted them to be able to live with Him forever in Heaven. So from the time of Adam and Eve’s sin, God promised a Redeemer and entered into covenants with mankind.
