The Christian Understanding of Suffering

If we approach suffering with the correct attitude and understanding, it can bring us closer to God.

Lesson Vocabulary

  • Redemption
    :
    Freedom from bondage or oppression.
  • Original Sin
    :
    (n.): The state of human nature deprived of the original holiness and justice Adam and Even enjoyed before the fall.
  • Freedom
    :
    The power, rooted in the intellect and will, to act or not to act, to do this or that, and so to perform deliberate actions on one’s own responsibility. True freedom is the ability to do what one ought to do, that which is truly good and directed toward God, our happiness and fulfillment.
  • Humility
    :
    The moral virtue that keeps us from being concerned with personal greatness, but to recognize our total dependence on God.
  • Salvation
    :
    The act of being freed from the power and effects of sin. Jesus earned our salvation by His sacrifice on the Cross and His Resurrection from the dead.
