A title given to Jesus that describes His sacrifice to free us from sin. Just like the sacrifice of the Passover lamb freed the Israelites from slavery, Jesus’s sacrifice frees us from death and sin in a new Passover. (1409) Jesus is the Lamb of God whose sacrifice on the Cross freed us from sin and spiritual death. Just as the Israelites had to eat flesh of the Paschal Lamb for the sacrifice to be complete, Jesus gave us His Body and Blood in the Eucharist at the Last Supper for us to receive the blessings of the Passover of the New Covenant.
