The Types of Prayer: Adoration, Petition, Intercession, Thanksgiving, and Praise

The five forms, or types, of prayer are blessing and adoration, praise, petition, intercession, and thanksgiving.

Lesson Vocabulary

  • Adoration
    :
    A form of prayer in which we worship God and express our love for Him.
  • Petition
    :
    Petition is the form of prayer in which we ask God for good things.
  • Intercession/Intercede
    :
    A form of prayer in which we ask for God’s help for others. (2644)
  • Thanksgiving
    :
    Thanksgiving is the form of prayer in which we thank God for the good things He has given us.
  • Praise
    :
    To tell someone exactly what is good about him or her, or about something her or she has done. We praise God when we celebrate His goodness. We praise God when we thank Him with words or actions of joy.
