Lesson 12

Jesus Reveals God as Unconditional Love

Jesus gave us the revolutionary truth that the identity of God is unconditional, self-giving love.

Lesson Vocabulary

  • The Law
    :
The rules and prescriptions for living a holy life given by God to Moses in the Pentateuch. The Law, summed up in the Ten Commandments, communicates how to best love God and each other. In the Jewish scriptural tradition, the Law was an expression of wisdom, which itself was a perfect reflection of God.
  • Gentile
    :
    A person of non-Jewish descent.
  • Final Judgment
    :
The judgment experienced on the Last Day in which the light of Christ, who is Truth itself, will illuminate everything. Nothing will remain hidden. We will see not only all of our own individual choices for or against God, but how each one affected everyone else and the whole order of creation. On this, then, we will be judged and welcomed to eternal life with Christ in the New Heavens and the New Earth, or banished into the eternal torment of Hell.
  • Stoic
    :
Relating to the school of thought that the wise should be free of passion and indifferent to pleasure or pain. Commonly used to refer to someone who does not show emotion at misfortune or suffering. Stoicism is based on the philosophy of Zeno of Citium (300 BC).
